Digging into the Bible in 2012

It is once again Resolution time. You know how it goes, over the past few days, maybe weeks, we’ve been determining goals that we hope to accomplish in the coming year. Sometimes we are successful at keeping them, while other times we never even make it out of the start gate.

May I suggest something for you to resolve to do this year?

The coming of the New Year is a great time to determine to read through the entire Bible. I’m not talking about reading through a plan in order to check off the block everyday. Rather, I’m speaking of reading with purpose and with intent to know God and His Word more.

Justin Taylor over at the Gospel Coalition has put together a great list of yearly reading plans along with some information on the importance of reading with a plan.

Additionally, YouVersion has some excellent reading plans.

I’m committing to the M’Cheyne One-Year Reading Plan. Mainly because it greatly adaptable to a family devotional setting.

So, what do you say? Who wants to pick a plan and hold each other accountable to the task at hand?

Lead Me – A Challenge

This new song by Sanctus Real leads to a lot of conviction and challenge within me.

Here’s the thing, lately the Spirit has pressed into me the reality that there is an overwhelming lack of God-fearing Christian men. I guess, you could really say a lack of God-fearing people. I’m thankful that my life has been one that is surround by men who radiate a godly lifestyle and challenge me in their actions. Several of which call me their pastor when I know that the ways they have lead me is far above anything I have to offer them.

When I look at the husband that I am, the father that I am, and the pastor that I am, I concede that the room for improvement is incalculable. Ironically enough my wife, children, and the people who call themselves Crossroads, deserve so much more than waiting on me to figure it all out. I’m thankful though, that God has surrounded me with men and women who are patient, children who see no wrong, and a Savior who still believes there is something in me worth redeeming.

So go ahead and watch the video. Cry a little. Then say a prayer with me that God would lead us, so that we may lead others and His name would be glorified.

It’s the Dad Life!

Love this. So my life. Except for that yard work part.

I Surrender to the Swagger!

Jessie is constantly trying to convince me to get a mini-van. I’m constantly listing reasons why we should not own one.

Chiefly – I’m not even 30 yet.

Then I saw this video. (Thanks to my friend Graham.)

Now I want a mini-van.

What say you?

Do They Care?

Jessica turned 7 this past Sunday and had an awesome party with her friends. Of course she was given some great gifts. From us she got her very first iPod. She was super stoked. (I was as well. She can now listen to Hannah Montana and I don’t have too!)

Here’s the thing though. Jessica doesn’t know/care that its an outdated model and only 1gb. She doesn’t care that it’s refurbished. She doesn’t even care that we got a refund of $0.78 because I purchased it through my USAA MemberShop rewards. All she knows is now she has music. Whenever she wants. From the moment she put in the ear-buds and turned it on. She was free. Free to dance as she pleased.

Bam.

They don’t care. They don’t care how much that new ministry / program our church just started cost. They don’t care how many times it has been used and re-used or who had it before. And if we were honest with ourselves, we would see they don’t even care how outdated it is, or if we would get any return on our investment.

At the end of the day all they care about is the music, and whether or not that can have it, anytime they want, to satisfy their deepest cravings. So what are we giving them?  A refurbished, outdated iPod that we saved a few bucks on? Or music that will cause them to dance and a message that will bring them life?
